Columbus police are investigating a tragic shooting that left three people dead early Thursday morning at an apartment complex in the Abby Trails neighborhood of Canal Winchester.

Officers responded to multiple 911 calls just after midnight reporting gunfire at the Countryview East Apartments on Esquire Drive, near Refugee Road. When police arrived around 12:20AM, they found two people (one woman and one man) dead outside the apartment. A second man was found dead inside the residence. All three had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Detectives believe one of the men fatally shot the woman and the other man before turning the gun on himself in what authorities are treating as a double murder-suicide. However, police say the investigation is still in its early stages, and the relationships among the three individuals remain unclear.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims. Esquire Drive has since reopened, though a heavy police presence remains at the scene.
