A man accused of murdering his 13-year-old daughter in Toledo was shot by a SWAT officer Tuesday morning in Columbus’ Victorian Village neighborhood.

The suspect, 33-year-old Darnell Jones— who also goes by the surname Ogletree— was wanted in connection with the killing of Kei’Mani Latigue. The teen’s body was found inside an abandoned Toledo house on Monday. Toledo Police issued an arrest warrant for Jones, charging him with murder, abduction, and felonious assault.

According to police, Jones was the last person seen with Kei’Mani before she disappeared on March 18th. Investigators allege he gave inconsistent statements about their whereabouts.

Columbus SWAT officers had been surveilling Jones for two days before locating him near Dennison Avenue and West 2nd Avenue. When confronted, Jones pulled out a gun and fired at an officer. SWAT officers returned fire, striking him at least five times.

Jones was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and is expected to survive. No officers were injured in the incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the shooting.

Darnell Jones is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at 9AM.
